What Trump said

Donald Trump floated “Trump Ocean” or “Ocean of the Americas” as possible names for the Atlantic or Pacific at his Clarksville, Tennessee rally on 10 October. Rally broadcaster RSBN reported the remark and linked its recording. (RSBN, 11 October)

The Washington Post independently reported the ocean-renaming suggestion on 10 October. (Washington Post)

How does a remark differ from an official change?

There is a documented precedent for formal action. Trump’s 20 January 2025 executive order directed the Interior Secretary to adopt Gulf of America naming and update federal references. That order contains instructions to government bodies; the ocean remark does not itself supply an equivalent written direction. (White House order, 20 January 2025)

WDWK’s reading is therefore narrow: Trump raised the idea, but the sources checked do not establish that either ocean has been formally renamed. Any next story should identify a specific order, its geographical scope and which authorities or map providers actually adopt the name. A suggestion and an implemented change are different developments.

Methodology

We checked the rally broadcaster’s report and embedded quotation, independent Washington Post coverage, and the primary 2025 executive order for background. The broadcaster linked a recording; WDWK did not independently inspect it. No new ocean-renaming order or completed change is established by these sources.
